What We Do

Working In Schools

A lot of the work that we do is with the local Primary and Secondary Schools. The work is varied and includes taking assembles, running lunchtime clubs, detached work and mentoring. In Primary School, towards the end of the academic year we do a lot of transition work to help year 6’s prepare for life in secondary school. In the local secondary school at lunchtimes we do detached work. During this time our Youth Pastor is available for young people to talk to, offer advice or just to extend a listening ear.  As these relationships develop then our Youth Pastor is on hand to mentor. We feel it is important that young people have trusted adults that they can build appropriate relationships with to enable support and counsel.

Working In The Churches

TheO6, through its Youth Pastor offers support to the local churches. Support is wide ranging from offering help and advice to youth leaders to helping lead different types of youth ministries. Each year we take a group of young people to a local Christian camp to help them meet other Christian young people, to worship God and grow in their faith. Our Youth Pastor is also available to lead specific services – such as All Age and Youth and Children’s services. He is also pleased to speak at services to raise awareness of TheO6 Project.

Working in the Community

Working in the community is an essential aspect of TheO6 Project. It runs a number of parent Courses a year including Care for the Family’s ‘How To Drug Proof Your Kids’ and in conjunction with the local Primary Schools ‘Timid To Tiger’ – A course aimed at Parents of Anxious children and young people. Each year TheO6, in partnership with local churches also runs a weekly summer holiday club called ‘Landlubbers’. TheO6 supports various projects in the community and the Youth Pastor currently is also a trustee of the local skatepark in Ottery St Mary. Part of its community work is The Hub Drop In Youth Cafe and XL-Mentoring. For further information on these please see the relevant page.
